MANILA, Philippines — Fresh off her breakthrough WTA title in Washington, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala will reunite with seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams for the doubles competition at the 2026 Canadian Open.
Eala and Williams received the tournament’s final doubles wildcard and are scheduled to open their campaign on Thursday evening (Manila time) against Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato.
The pair previously teamed up at the Bad Homburg Open, where they advanced to the quarterfinals. They were also expected to play together at the Mubadala DC Open, but the partnership did not materialize.
“We know our fans are incredibly excited to see Venus and Alexandra together in doubles,” tournament director Karl Hale said in a statement published on the WTA website.
“Venus is a legend of the sport, while Alexandra’s profile continues to rise along with her level on the court. It will be a special moment when the two step onto Sobeys Stadium as partners for the first time,” Hale added.
Eala heads into the Canadian Open following a historic run at the Mubadala DC Open, where she captured her first career WTA Tour singles title.
She is also set to begin her singles campaign on Thursday morning (Manila time) against Alycia Parks.
