Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has officially entered a new era of sporting excellence following the successful conclusion of the “Bahrain Sports Summit,” held February 10–11, 2026, at Exhibition World Bahrain. The event served as a major turning point for the region, transitioning the sports sector from a recreational pursuit into a sophisticated, investment-driven industry.

The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and was attended by His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the GSA, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), senior officials, representatives of sports institutions and federations, and members of the press.

The summit reached a historic peak when the Arab Federation for Sports Culture and the Arab League officially designated Bahrain as the “Capital of Arab Sports Culture 2026.” This prestigious title was accepted by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, during a ceremony that celebrated the Kingdom’s deep-rooted commitment to fostering a vibrant sports ecosystem.
The event underscored a comprehensive national vision. His Highness Shaikh Khalid highlighted that the Kingdom’s continued regional and international success is the direct result of institutional planning and effective partnerships driven by the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

With an impressive roster of high-profile speakers from 19 countries, the summit acted as a global laboratory for sports innovation. Key sessions featuring international experts and senior officials—including HRH Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud and US Ambassador Stephanie Hallett—tackled the industry’s most pressing topics: The Future of Technology: The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in performance tracking and talent identification; Legal & Corporate Frameworks: Strengthening sports law, governance, and professional management and Social & Media Impact: The evolution of sports media and the rising influence of women’s sports.
The summit moved beyond theoretical discussion to deliver tangible infrastructure improvements:
Khalifa Sports City Hall Naming Rights: A landmark agreement was signed between the General Sports Authority (GSA) and the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB). This partnership secures the naming rights for the hall and includes a dedicated mandate for the development and maintenance of the facility.
Solar-Powered Sports Facilities: In a major leap toward environmental sustainability, a cooperation agreement was launched with Midal Solar to install advanced solar energy systems across various sports clubs and facilities in the Kingdom.

In addition to the high-level policy discussions, the summit featured an expansive exhibition. Highlights included a School Olympiad to scout young talent and a dedicated Innovation and Technology wing focusing on accessibility and sports solutions for persons with disabilities.
As the summit drew to a close, the General Sports Authority solidified its role as a regional leader, proving that Bahrain is prepared to lead the Arab world in sports culture, economic investment, and sustainable infrastructure.
