The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said it readied its linemen staff on standby in case heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or Habagat intensified.
“We are continuously monitoring the situation and our crews are ready to attend to any possible electricity service concern in areas that might be affected by the inclement weather,” Zaldarriaga said.
Meralco also reminded everyone about safety to avoid accidents and reduce the chance of damage to electrical facilities.
Zaldariagga also reminded billboard owners and operators to temporarily roll up their billboards, especially when strong winds are around. Meralco explained that unsecured billboard structures could collapse and end up damaging power lines and other electrical facilities.
Meanwhile, for households dealing with flooding, Meralco urged residents to stay extra careful near anything electrical. People should keep clear of fallen power lines and anything submerged or wet, and if it is safe, immediately switch off the main power supply or circuit breaker.
Customers were further told to double check their hands and feet are completely dry before touching electrical devices. If possible, appliances should be unplugged. Light bulbs can be removed too, but only if it can be done safely.
