MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted the waters southeast of Sarangani in Davao Occidental early Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The earthquake occurred at around 2:43 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, based on PHIVOLCS’ earthquake monitoring data.
The following instrumental intensities were recorded:
- Intensity III — Malapatan, Sarangani
- Intensity II — Digos City, Davao del Sur; Tupi, South Cotabato
- Intensity I — Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Matanao, Davao del Sur
PHIVOLCS said several aftershocks have been detected following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Sarangani and the magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Davao Occidental recorded last month.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the affected areas.
