MANILA, Philippines — Face-to-face classes have been suspended in several areas of Metro Manila and Luzon on Friday, August 28, due to continued rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat.
Local government units issued separate announcements as a precautionary measure to protect students and teachers amid the inclement weather.
In Metro Manila, face-to-face classes at all levels in public and private schools have been suspended in Caloocan, Malabon, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, San Juan, Taguig and Valenzuela.
In Pateros, the suspension covers classes from Child Development Centers through Senior High School.
In Quezon City, the local government confirmed the suspension of face-to-face classes in Child Development Centers, Kindergarten, Grades 1 to 12, and the Alternative Learning System (ALS). Students will shift to Alternative Delivery Modes, while higher education institutions will decide whether to suspend their classes.
In Bataan, face-to-face classes from preschool to Grade 12, including ALS, have been suspended. Individual schools will decide whether to conduct online classes.
Classes have also been suspended in parts of Benguet, including Kibungan from preschool to Senior High School and Atok from preschool to elementary level.
In Pangasinan, the municipalities of Aguilar, Binmaley, Bugallon, Infanta and Lingayen are among those that have suspended face-to-face classes.
In Bulacan, the latest list includes Malolos and Pulilan. In Pampanga, suspensions have been announced in Angeles City, City of San Fernando, Santo Tomas, Minalin, Macabebe, and several schools in Mexico and Apalit.
Face-to-face classes have also been suspended in San Simon, except at Concepcion Integrated School.
Parents and students are advised to continue monitoring official announcements from their respective LGUs and schools, as the list of areas with class suspensions may be expanded or updated depending on weather conditions.
