In a successful outreach initiative by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), a total of 389 residents from Marikina City availed themselves of the free Theoretical Driving Course (TDC).
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza announced that the Marikina District Office conducted the free TDC program for residents in Barangays Tañong, San Roque, Nangka, and Fortune.
“This program, supported by President Marcos and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, aims to raise awareness among our fellow citizens, especially the youth, about the importance of road safety and discipline on the roads,” stated Assec Mendoza.
Barangay officials played a crucial role in selecting participants for the free TDC as they prioritized individuals facing financial challenges.
The two-day event kicked off on Saturday, February 10, with 120 residents from Barangay Nangka, 95 from Barangay Fortune, 92 from Barangay Tañong, and 82 from Barangay San Roque.
The outreach program falls under “Serbisyong LTO” or “Serbisyong Ligtas, Tapat at Organisado,” and “Pinabilis sa Barangay ang Bawat Serbisyo para Magproseso, Magparehistro at Magpa-lisensya” (PBBM), which also included pre-registration assistance for driver’s license applications
Assec Mendoza previously assigned all LTO Regional Directors and District Office heads to organize more free TDC programs to align with the broader goal of the DOTr and the LTO to cultivate responsible and disciplined motorists nationwide.
The Theoretical Driving Course is a requirement for obtaining a driver’s license, which typically costs at least P1,000 from driving schools.
“Sa mga barangay na nais magkaroon ng ganitong programa, bukas ang mga tanggapan ng LTO para sa inyong request at makakaasa kayo na pupuntaang LTO sa inyong barangay para dito,” he added.
