ASEZ WAO holds clean up activity in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, 55 volunteers from ASEZ WAO – World Mission Society Church of God Young Adult Volunteer Group gathered to conduct a clean up drive activity within Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo in Makati City, this Monday morning.

The clean up drive activity was attended by volunteers of ASEZ WAO with the determination for environmental protection. ASEZ WAO is an international volunteer group composed of young adult members of the World Mission Society Church of God, which is known for its environmental efforts in 175 countries all over the world.

With the support of the officials of Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo and 20 personnels under the Clean and Green Program, 28 trashbags were collected after the activity. This clean up activity also cleared the debris from leaves and branches that were severely affected by the inclement weather.

The street clean up initiative falls under one of the major projects of ASEZ WAO, which is the Green Earth Movement. This movement aims to lead young adult workers towards environmental protection on life on land.

Furthermore, the Green Earth project, street clean up in particular, is in effect in 30 countries, participated by 29, 704 volunteers. This community effort results in a total of 106,377 kilograms of trash collected as of writing.

The program is also in line with the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), specifically, SDG 15 – which aims to protect life on land. By cleaning the surroundings, ASEZ WAO volunteers aim for a future that values the well-being of ecosystems and the life that depends on it.

Josephine Guttierez, member of the Clean and Green program of Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, expressed her appreciation in the clean up activity conducted by the group. “Natutuwa ‘yung mga residente, syempre, kasi malinis yung kalsada kahit bumagyo,” Guttierez said.

Guttierez also emphasized the importance of volunteering for the community, explaining that the clean up volunteer service helped a lot in maintaining the cleanliness within the streets and the residential areas around the barangay.

Each team of volunteers were accompanied by officers from the Clean and Green program. After the opening ceremony held in the barangay hall, each team, with their guide, cleaned the streets, clogged drainage, and picked up trash within the area for two hours.

Although met with inclement weather, Me Anne Hernandez, member of ASEZ WAO, remains determined in cleaning the streets. She attributed her determination to the enthusiasm of her co-volunteers. “Kahit na kasi umuulan, never namin na-consider na hindi na lang ituloy ‘yung activity. Na-feel ko talaga ‘yung dedikasyon nila na yakapin ang mundo ng may puso ng Ina,” she added.

Meanwhile, Barangay Councilor Edgardo Jusi commends the efforts of the ASEZ WAO through a support signature. The barangay officials, alongside the Clean and Green Program personnels, extend their interest in conducting a similar activity with the ASEZ WAO in the near future.
