Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain is preparing to host the 6th Responsible Care Conference, organized by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), from 13-15 October 2025, at the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel in Manama. The conference will bring together a select group of industry leaders from the region and the world to discuss the future of sustainability, safety, and digital transformation in the chemical industry, and highlight the most prominent global practices in this vital field.
This year’s conference is held under the slogan: “Towards a smarter, more transparent and more resilient future, “ offering a comprehensive three-day program featuring keynote speeches, strategic panel discussions, technical sessions, and specialized workshops. The event kicks off on October 13 with introductory sessions showcasing best practices in contractor management, followed by a practical workshop on the Responsible Care program. ® Led by Daniel Roczniak, Senior Director of Responsible Care® at the American Chemistry Council.

The main program of the conference will start on 14 October with an opening address by Mr. Khalid Al-Olayani, Vice President of Environment, Health, Safety and Security at SABIC and Vice Chairman of the GPCA Responsible Care Committee, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, CEO of Bapco Refining Company. The first day will also witness a discussion session entitled: From Accidents to Industrial Leadership Through Responsible Care ®” With the participation of Khaled Al-Daoud, Managing Director and CEO of Natpet, and Mitchell Toomey, Vice President of Sustainability and Responsible Care at the American Chemistry Council.
The conference concludes on 15 October a session will be dedicated to cybersecurity, featuring Nawfal Naseem, Vice President of Cyber Risk Management at Marsh, and Peter Clayton, Head of the Energy Engineering Centre in Dubai – Marsh, who will review the most prominent challenges and solutions in this vital field. The program also includes an advanced leadership workshop presented by Alfredo Karam, Principal Consultant in the Leadership and Culture Transformation Practice at DSS+., which will provide participants with practical insights into ways to enhance a safety culture in the contemporary workplace.
The sixth edition of the Responsible Care Conference comes at a time when the sector is witnessing remarkable progress in environmental and operational performance. According to the GPCA Performance Metrics Report for 2024, the association’s members recorded a 100% decrease in 33% decrease in Level 1 process safety incidents, along with a decrease of 9% in hazardous waste density, while total greenhouse gas emissions decreased to less than 100 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent These results are a prominent indicator of the region’s petrochemical industry’s commitment to promoting environmental responsibility and establishing operational excellence practices .

A highlight of the conference will be the announcement of the winners of the fourth GPCA Responsible Care Excellence Awards, which honor companies and individuals who have achieved outstanding achievements in this field. The event will also witness the presentation of the second GPCA Carbon Neutrality Cup, awarded to GCC undergraduate and graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, in recognition of their innovative contributions to a carbon-neutral future.
