The plan to resurrect e-sabong, or online cockfighting, as a means of making up for lost revenue as a result of the complete prohibition on Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) was rejected by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on Wednesday.
Pangandaman said during a Kapihan in Manila Bay that he doesn’t know the revenue impact of the e-sabong and “don’t think it’s necessary for next year.”
The national government would only lose PHP7 billion in revenue if POGOs were completely shut down in the nation, according to Pangandaman, who cited research from the Department of Finance (DOF) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
Pangandaman stated that the expected revenue loss might be offset by increased tax income and government efficiency.
Additionally, Pangandaman emphasised that the Philippine economy is doing “good” overall.
