The public is being warned by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) against love scams, especially now that Valentine’s Day is approaching.
In a press briefing in Malacañang, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos said that the love scam is one of the types of cyber crime whose victims are those who experience “love sick” or those who are sad in life.
He said that the syndicate usually targets those who are seen on social media and will analyze the profile based on what’s in the posts of the victims.
Philippine National Police Chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. believes that the syndicate is not far from taking advantage this Hearts’ Month.
“It’s not a remote possibility. So again thank you for this and maybe, through this activity we are doing now, this press conference ,maybe it will make our concerned citizens to become aware,” said Acorda.
