Manama: The vibrant Filipino community in Bahrain came together in joyous celebration at the Sacred Heart Church on the third Sunday of January to honor the “Feast of Santo Niño”, also known as the “Holy Child Jesus”.
Rooted in a tradition that spans over 500 years, the annual commemoration of the Feast of Santo Niño holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, tracing its origins to the introduction of Catholicism in the Philippines. It all began in 1521 when Ferdinand Magellan’s historic expedition discovered Zubu Island (now Cebu), leading to the bestowal of the Image of Santo Niño upon Queen Joanna.

Embracing the essence of the Santo Niño’s infancy and childhood, the Filipino community in Bahrain gathered to pay homage and exalt, underscoring the importance of embracing a childlike perspective in the pursuit of the Kingdom of God.

The momentous celebration at the Sacred Heart Church was presided over by Parish Priest Fr. Francis P. Joseph, joined by esteemed priests, officials from the Philippine Embassy, distinguished guests, and members of the Filipino Community in Bahrain. Notably, the event was graced by the esteemed presence of Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Anne Jalandoon-Louis, and other officials from the Philippine Embassy.

The Feast of Santo Niño stands as a poignant testament to the enduring cultural and spiritual bonds that unite the Filipino community, fostering solidarity and camaraderie that transcends geographical borders.
