Senator Joel Villanueva appears to have bitten off more than he can chew by taking on two prestigious but equally taxing roles in different fields.
Villanueva signed on to become the team manager of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers at the same time he was elected Senate majority leader.
The dismal performance of the two institutions he led in recent months speaks volumes about how much he overestimated his ability to occupy a leadership position.
An Iskooper said Villanueva should take some of the brickbats thrown at Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri because he failed in his role in managing the chamber’s legislative affairs.
Villanueva got his start in politics as the congressional representative of CIBAC party-list, which won a seat in the House owing to the cult following of Jesus Is Lord Church founded by Villanueva’s father, preacher Eddie Villanueva.
Villanueva’s involvement in the Growling Tigers ruined the reputation of the team’s coach, Bal David, who’s considered as one of the most venerated idols in UST hoops history.
