Chairman of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) Manuel V. Pangilinan is considering calling for a toll holiday on the NLEX Connector amid the rehabilitation of EDSA, like the suspension on toll collections instituted by San Miguel Corp. (SMC).

Pangilinan said MPTC should consider toll holidays for sections of the NLEX Connector. This 8-kilometre elevated expressway connects the NLEX Harbor Link Segment in Caloocan City to Ramon Magsaysay Avenue in Sta. Mesa, Manila. This will be in parallel with SMC’s proposal to suspend the collection of toll fees along some segments of Skyway Stage 3 to lessen traffic during heavy roadworks.

MPTC’s toll roads include the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the NLEX Connector, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) under its management.
The proposed toll holiday comes amid reports that the DOTr had announced SMC’s similar toll waiver in certain areas of Skyway Stage 3 to help ease traffic congestion during the ongoing rehabilitation set for EDSA starting mid-June, running until the year 2027.
In the meantime, an odd-even number coding scheme is already been decided to apply 24 hours to vehicles along EDSA. A month-long dry run of this particular traffic scheme will commence on June 16.
The DPWH said that the rehabilitation will start on June 13, 2025, and will last through 2027.
