It was in late November that Ford Motor Company in the United States unveiled the latest generation Ranger pickup during a massive global event and various markets are anticipating its introduction, including the Philippines.
The latest Ranger, christened as a 2022 model, is a now a product aimed at a wider global market compared to the generation it replaces, and boasts of more technology and connectivity along with the “Built Ford Tough” reputation.
“With Ranger, we’ve had a big extended family for decades,” said Jim Farley, president and chief executive officer of Ford Motor. “This truck has always been a trusted partner to small business owners, farmers, families, adventurers, commercial fleets and so many more in more than 180 markets around the world,” Farley said.
“And with the new Ranger, this is our moment to deliver. Not just a product our customers will love, but an always-on experience that will help us build strong and lasting relationships with them. This is the midsize truck people will want to own and experience.”
For The Adventurous
Ford Motor utilized its accumulated expertise on trucks and a deep understanding of truck customers, and collaborated with customers globally to create a vehicle that would also appeal to the adventurous.
“When we reimagined the Ranger, we set out to create more than just a great new pickup truck; we set out to design a great experience as well,” said Dianne Craig, president of Ford Motor’s International Markets Group. “We are a family company, and we want our customers to feel like part of our family. The vehicle sale is just the beginning of our journey together.”
For his part, Gary Boes, Enterprise Product Line Management director for Global Trucks at Ford Motor, said the latest generation Ranger will allow its future owners to explore new horizons.
“We’ve really packed a lot into the next-generation Ranger to inspire owners to do more of what they love to do, with features that encourage them to explore new horizons,” he said.
Next Gen Project
The next generation Ranger project was led by Ford Motor’s Product Development Center in Australia where an international team of dedicated designers and engineers worked with teams from around the globe to not only incorporate the very latest in Ford technology, capability and safety, but to also engineer and test the Ranger to Ford’s toughest standards.
“Our team was focused on one goal – to make this Ranger the toughest and most capable we’ve ever created,” said Graham Pearson, Ranger vehicle program director. “They put it through one of the most exhaustive global testing schedules we’ve ever developed and would not rest until we were satisfied that it was Built Ford Tough.”
“We’re truck owners too, and this passion for the Ranger lifestyle translates into a passion for the product,” Boes added. “Ultimately, we want our customers’ experience with the pickup to enable and enhance their lifestyles.”

New Look, Capabilities
The next generation Ranger now shares the lines and looks of the latest iteration of the very popular F-150, which is its bigger brother. So, it now has an exterior that shares Ford’s global truck design DNA and with that, the next generation Ranger has a grille design similar to that of the F-150 with the signature C-clamp headlight design.
For the interior, the next generation Ranger has a car-like set up and ambiance, which assures a high level of passenger comfort during really rough offroading. The interior also has a portrait-style center touchscreen with Ford’s signature SYNC®i 4 connectivity and entertainment system.
To power the next generation ranger are three diesel engine choices, including a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.
“When you drive a Ranger with the V6 turbodiesel, it feels like a much bigger truck. And it feels really tough in the sense that it’s got endless power and torque, which is exactly what our customers wanted,” said Pritika Maharaj, the Ranger program manager at Ford Motors.
Two types of two four-wheel drive systems will be available: an electronic shift-on-the-fly system and an advanced full-time 4×4 system. (TruePress)
