President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the nation in commemorating National Heroes Day 2025 with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City. Joined by high-ranking government and military officials, the President paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Filipino heroes—both celebrated and unsung—whose legacy continues to shape the nation. The event underscored the enduring values of patriotism, unity, and public service that define the Filipino identity.
In his keynote address, President Marcos emphasized that heroism lives not only in history books, but also in the everyday efforts of ordinary citizens who quietly serve the country. He called on Filipinos to uphold the ideals of unity and bayanihan, especially in a time of transition and reform. The 2025 celebration carried the theme “Isang Diwa, Isang Lahi, Isang Bayanihan” (One Spirit, One Race, One Bayanihan), a message that reinforced collective responsibility in nation-building.
The President also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s stance against corruption. He pointed to ongoing investigations into anomalies in government flood-control projects, stressing that those who betray the public trust will be held responsible. Marcos warned that his administration will not tolerate actions that dishonor the sacrifices of Filipino heroes, vowing to restore accountability and protect the integrity of government institutions.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in collaboration with the Department of National Defense (DND) and the City Government of Taguig, organized the commemoration. Military honors, symbolic rituals, and cultural performances marked the solemnity of the event, which brought together citizens from all walks of life. Veterans stood side by side with youth leaders and public servants, offering a powerful visual of the nation’s intergenerational commitment to heroism.
National Heroes Day, observed every last Monday of August under Republic Act No. 9492, remains a vital moment of reflection for Filipinos. More than a remembrance of past battles, it has become a call to action—a reminder that the fight for justice, integrity, and national dignity continues. President Marcos’ message this year was clear: to honor our heroes, we must live by their example—not only in words, but in the everyday choices that shape the future of the Philippines. Cali Demi
