Manama: The Philippine School Bahrain (PSB) is leading the way in sustainable education. On September 2, 2025, with partners and honored guests in attendance, the school officially unveiled its new photovoltaic (PV) solar project, which will now supply all of the campus’s electricity. This significant achievement marks a milestone in PSB’s commitment to a greener future and positions the school as a leader in renewable energy adoption within the Kingdom.

The school’s board of directors, staff and student, parent and alumni representatives welcomed key officials including Dr. Sanaa Saeed Alhaddad, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Planning and Licensing, and Ms. Lulwa Ghassan Al-Muhanna, Director of Licensing and Follow-up of Private Schools, both from the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Mr. Qahtan Mohammed Alfaris, Chief of Engineering Service, represented H.E. Yasser Bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister, Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA) in the program. Ms. Jiemarie M. Ladrica, Cultural Attaché, attended as proxy of Hon. Bryan Jess T. Baguio, Chargé d’Affaires of the Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Furthermore, the project contractor’s team Green Innova, compromising managers, administrators and staff were present, reflecting their commitment to the success of the initiative.

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome and opening remarks delivered by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PSB, Mr. Reuel C. Castro. This was followed by the message of Mr. Nabeel Ahmed Ali Radhi, Managing Director of Green Innova. They highlighted how initiatives that exemplify innovation and sustainability, such as the mentioned project, can lead everyone to a brighter and cleaner future. In his statement, Castro added that schools must lead by example and align education with action. Moreover, Nabeel stressed the project’s successful integration of 100% solar energy in the school’s electricity usage—one of the first in the Kingdom.

Following this, a symbolic switch-on was spearheaded by Mr. Castro and the esteemed guests. Plaques of Appreciation were then presented to the representatives and partners of the project as tokens of gratitude and recognition. A guided tour to the RCC Building’s rooftop was held to showcase one of the three different sections of the PV solar project.

The construction of this project advances both the school and goals outlined in Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. Radhil stated that, “Bahrain wishes to achieve a net 0 by 2060,” making almost if not all buildings and infrastructure powered by sustainable energy, disregarding normal electricity bills by then. He added that the solar power project is a step closer to achieving the Kingdom’s goals, by aligning the project to more sustainable forms of energy gathering and consumption. He further stated that students can utilize non-renewable energy and resources like these to contribute towards the environment, marking this initiative a significant one towards a greener and cleaner future.

Castro also sent a message towards the youth saying, “You must look after the environment, protect the environment and the resources it provides because you, and the generations to come, are the ones benefiting from it,” encouraging all to partake in these endeavors.
This achievement marks not only engineering and technological prowess, but also a green future closer than we realize.
