Siquijor, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday, September 5, 2025, led the ceremonial switch-on of a new power generation facility in the Municipality of Siquijor, marking a significant milestone in the province’s push for energy stability and regional development.
The new plant, which forms part of the government’s broader energy modernization program, is expected to boost power supply reliability on the island, reduce outages, and support the growing needs of households, businesses, and tourism-related industries in Siquijor.
“This is more than just a power plant — it is a symbol of progress, stability, and the government’s commitment to energizing even the most far-flung communities,” President Marcos said during his remarks. “We are making sure that no province is left behind in our journey toward inclusive and sustainable growth.”
The project was implemented under the Department of Energy (DOE) and supported by local electric cooperatives. Officials say it will not only enhance energy security but also contribute to the island’s economic resilience by attracting new investments and improving the quality of life for residents.
Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, who joined the President at the event, highlighted the importance of decentralizing energy access and reducing dependence on aging or vulnerable infrastructure in the Visayas region.
With Siquijor historically facing power interruptions due to its geographic isolation and limited capacity, the new facility is a key component of the national government’s plan to achieve 100% electrification and support the shift toward cleaner and more reliable energy sources.
Local officials and community leaders welcomed the initiative, calling it a long-overdue investment that will empower the province’s development goals.
The switch-on ceremony concluded with a community gathering and technical demonstration of the plant’s capabilities. The facility is now fully operational and integrated into the island’s power grid.
