Automotive company Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) will sign agreements with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IV-A for a biodiversity conservation program this October.
Under the National Greening Program (NGP), TMP will adopt a 50-hectare upland forest block in Siniloan, Laguna.
Once the program starts, TMP will plant native and fruit-bearing trees in a 50-hectare area in Siniloan, located at the southern end of the Sierra Madre mountain range.
According to scientists, the Sierra Madre range serves as a natural barrier against typhoons with its long mountain range protecting Luzon.
TMP aims to plant a total of 41,000 trees and mangroves in five years with a survival rate of 80 percent.
Last September, TMP planted 10,000 trees and 5,000 mangroves in the provinces of Laguna and Batangas as an initial phase of their reforestation efforts.
“Toyota shares the responsibility in protecting the planet Earth and in fighting climate change in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto said on their websit .
