The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Milan confirmed the arrest of two Filipino nationals in Italy, allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
According to a PCG report, the two were allegedly engaged in buying and selling shabu (methamphetamine) within the country.
The consulate stated that the suspects are destined to join several other Filipinos who had been previously arrested in Italy for the same offences through the illegal drug trade.
While announcing that they could not release any names of the arrested individuals, the consulate, however, put out a very stern reminder for other Filipinos in Italy to obey local laws and avoid engaging in activities that could tarnish the overall reputation of the larger Filipino community.
In a statement, the consulate has urged all Filipinos to uphold laws, therefore safeguarding the dignity and image of countless diligent and law-abiding Filipinos in Italian territory.
The consulate also sent a warning that no Filipino should imitate the past behavior of those arrested and that such misconduct should be avoided for the benefit of others.
In a related advisory, the consulate had earlier cautioned Filipinos against inappropriate behavior in public spaces after reports of gambling and drinking were cited concerning Filipinos gathered at the Parco Bande Nere public park in Milan.
