MANILA, Philippines — Two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo is targeting his first Asian Games gold medal when he competes at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.
Yulo will lead the Philippine men’s artistic gymnastics team alongside his younger brother Eldrew Yulo, Miguel Besana, Justine Ace De Leon and Zachary Cortins Nunez.
Despite his impressive international record, which includes 12 gold medals at the Asian Championships, Yulo has yet to win an Asian Games gold medal.
At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Yulo topped the floor exercise qualification but finished seventh in the final. He also placed fourth in the vault and failed to win a medal in the competition.
Yulo did not compete at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou because the event coincided with the World Championships in Belgium.
With another Asian Games opportunity ahead, Yulo is aiming to complete his medal collection by capturing the elusive gold in Japan.
