MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Maymay has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA), but the weather disturbance remains inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its 2 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA, formerly Tropical Depression Maymay (international name: Kujira), was last spotted 545 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela.
The state weather bureau said the weather system is unlikely to re-intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Dolphin, which remains outside the PAR.
As of the latest advisory, the typhoon was located 1,165 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon and continues to move west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
Dolphin packs maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 170 kph, according to PAGASA.
Despite remaining outside the country’s monitoring area, the typhoon is expected to continue enhancing the southwest monsoon (habagat), which is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains over parts of the country in the coming days.
PAGASA advised the public, particularly those in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, to remain alert and continue monitoring official weather advisories as the enhanced southwest monsoon may trigger flooding and other rain-related hazards.
