MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression Maymay are expected to continue until Thursday, Aug. 7, despite the weather disturbance weakening, according to the state weather bureau.
PAGASA said persistent rainfall will continue to affect parts of Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Benguet, and La Union through Thursday noon as Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon continue to influence weather conditions over Northern Luzon.
The weather bureau also forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall in several provinces, including Abra, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya, through Thursday.
Authorities warned that the prolonged rainfall could trigger flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone communities, as well as possible rain-induced landslides in mountainous areas.
PAGASA urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, monitor official weather advisories, and take necessary precautions as heavy rains continue to threaten Northern Luzon.
