Butch Paje, a member of the award-winning group, Filipino Creatives Bahrain, has lived and worked in the Kingdom of Bahrain for 20 years and has made significant contributions to the local and international art scene. His creative journey began at a young age, with a family deeply rooted in artistic pursuits. His passion for art led him to become a Display Artist and Showcase Designer, working with five different companies in Bahrain, the longest stint being 12 years with his last employer.
In 2018, Paje, along with his wife Catherine and other Filipino artists, founded the Filipino Creatives Bahrain, an initiative supported by the Philippine Embassy. The group, unique in its structure, serves as a platform for Filipino artists residing in Bahrain to showcase their talent. Paje’s contributions to the group have been instrumental, particularly in advertising, organizing events, and supporting each art exhibit.

After a remarkable journey spanning two decades, Butch’s time in Bahrain is reaching an amazing and inspiring conclusion. On Friday, July 26, the Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Anne Jalando-on Louis, graciously hosted a “Farewell Party” at her official residence in Manama, honoring Butch and his invaluable contributions to the Filipino community in Bahrain. This event served as a testament to Butch’s enduring impact and dedication throughout his tenure.
In an exclusive interview with Pinoy Aksyon News Bahrain, Paje opened up about his journey and shared his experiences, insights, and future plans as he prepares to embark on a new chapter of his life. Below is an excerpt of the interview with Butch Paje of Filipino Creatives Bahrain:

Pinoy Aksyon News: When and how did you discover your creative side?
Butch Paje: I believe that creativity runs through my veins. From a young age, I witnessed the artistic prowess of my family members, from my grandfather to my nieces and nephews, who all possess a natural inclination towards the arts. It feels as though my talent is ingrained within me. I began drawing at a tender age, and by the time I was 7 years old, I immersed myself in the world of arts by joining art groups and participating in exhibitions. This early exposure further ignited my passion for creativity.

Pinoy Aksyon News: How did you get involved with Filipino Creatives Bahrain?
Butch Paje: Prior to my involvement with Filipino Creatives Bahrain, I had already established a presence in the international art scene. I arrived in Bahrain in 2004 and since then, I have received invitations from both local and international organizations to participate in art festivals and exhibitions. In 2018, recognizing the absence of an active Filipino art group, Filipino Creatives Bahrain was founded through the initiative of the Philippine Embassy. With the shared vision of promoting Filipino art and culture, we took the decision to establish this group.

Pinoy Aksyon News: How long have you been with the group?
Butch Paje: My wife Catherine and I were the pioneering members of Filipino Creatives Bahrain, establishing the group in 2018 alongside other Filipino artists, with the invaluable support of the Philippine Embassy in Manama. What sets Filipino Creatives Bahrain apart from other organizations is our hands-on approach to event organization. From the very inception of the group, we have been actively involved in organizing, promoting, curating artist lists, and setting up entire exhibitions. The group encapsulates various roles within, including artists, organizers, promoters, and even carpenters, all working together to create a showcase that fills us with Filipino pride. Importantly, our dedication to this endeavor has been entirely voluntary. Our commitment is firmly rooted in the goals of Filipino Creatives Bahrain, which are to promote the exceptional talent of Filipino artists on a global scale and provide a platform for Filipino artists residing or working in Bahrain to exhibit their artworks.

Pinoy Aksyon News: What do you think are your major contributions to Filipino Creatives Bahrain?
Butch Paje: I believe that my significant contribution to the group lies in utilizing my expertise to promote the group, its artists, and the events we organize. Additionally, I have wholeheartedly supported the success of each art exhibit. Filipino Creatives Bahrain is akin to one of our children. We have cherished it, nurtured it, and allowed it to flourish. Now, we find immense joy and pride in all of its accomplishments.

Pinoy Aksyon News: Can you share with us the reason why you are leaving Bahrain for good?
Butch Paje: A few years ago, my family and I had already started considering moving away from Bahrain, but we were unsure of the exact timeline. We have now decided that this year is the right time. The deteriorating health of my mother is a major factor in my decision to return to the Philippines.

Pinoy Aksyon News: What do you think is your legacy to Bahrain?
Butch Paje: As one of the many Overseas Filipino Workers in Bahrain, I have dedicated my efforts to securing a prosperous future for my family. As an artist, I take pride in representing the Philippines through my exhibited artworks that reached audiences across the Middle East, Greece, the Netherlands, South Korea, Thailand, and even the USA. Moreover, I have actively supported aspiring artists, encouraging them to embrace their talent and proudly display their own creations.

Pinoy Aksyon News: What is your message to Ambassador Anne Jalando-on Louis:
Butch Paje: Expressing gratitude alone cannot adequately capture the immense support provided by Ambassador Anne Jalando-on Louis to both myself and the Filipino Creatives Bahrain community during her tenure in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Your Excellency, your unwavering dedication and visionary leadership in fostering the relationship between the Philippines and Bahrain exemplify the profound principles of diplomacy and cooperation. Your efforts not only reinforce the bond between our nations but also shine a spotlight on the vibrant cultural heritage and unwavering spirit of the Filipino people. Your contributions are truly invaluable. Thank you very much.”
On behalf of Pinoy Aksyon News Bahrain, we extend our heartfelt well wishes to Butch Paje as he embarks on the next chapter of his journey.
