The Department of Justice (DOJ) received a tax evasion lawsuit from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) against Alice Guo, the mayor of Bamban.
The complaint was filed on Wednesday.
Guo failed P500,000 in taxes during the filing, according to an interview by BIR Commissioner Romeo “Jun” Lumagui.
Rachelle Carreon, Baofu and Land Development Inc’s, corporate secretary and Jack Uy, a person that Guo is said to sell shares are some other responders.
In the Section 254 of the National Internal Revenue Code (effort to evade or defeat tax), Section 255 (failure to file CGT and DST returns), and Section 25 (failure to file/supply specific information) will all be used against them.
As of the time of publication, GMA News Online had contacted Guo’s team for comment but had yet to hear back.
Lumagui added that the respondents might face imprisonment if proven guilty.
Guo was permanently barred from holding public office and her whole retirement benefit forfeited by the Office of the Ombudsman, which terminated her from service on Tuesday due to serious misconduct.
Leonardo Anunciacion, the vice mayor of Bamban, was also suspended by the Ombudsman. Edwin Camp, an officer at the Bamban Corporation Permit and Licencing Office, and ten other local authorities were suspended for three months for actions that were detrimental to the best interests of the service.
