Central Visayas – The Bohol Provincial Government has declared a state of calamity due to the dengue outbreak when its cases increased to 5,839 from January to August 24, 2023, per the recommendation of the Provincial Anti-Dengue Task Force or PADTF.
As this development was declared, Provincial Health Officer Dr Cesar Tomas Lopez confirmed that a state of calamity has also been declared to fast-track the procurement of necessary supplies against dengue, particularly in areas with high cases recorded.
The number of cases this year is a significant increase of 451.4 percent compared to last year’s recorded 971 cases within the same period with 14 deaths.
The following cities and municipalities have breached the epidemic threshold: Tagbilaran City, Talibon, and Trinidad.
The provincial government has earmarked P5.3 million for IV fluids, testing kits, and additional beds for provincial hospitals. All LGUs were ordered to re-activate their task forces and implement the 4S strategy, namely: Search and Destroy, Self-protection, Seek Early Consultation, and Support Fogging.
Despite such alarming case numbers, Dr. Lopez made it clear that, as of last Sunday, only 670 cases remained active.
