Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the Marcos administration to enforce a complete and non-selective ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
During a visit to Legazpi, Albay, Go stated, “Dapat totally talaga. Kapag sinabing ‘totally,’ totally. Huwag yung selective na mayroong maiiwan.”
His remarks come in response to an appeal from Alejandro Tengco, chairperson of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), who requested the exclusion of 12 out of 43 POGO companies from the ban. These companies, Tengco argued, function as customer service representatives for gaming enterprises.
As vice chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order, Go emphasized the importance of prioritizing national security and public order when enforcing laws and regulations. He reiterated that the safety and well-being of the people should be the government’s primary concern. While acknowledging the economic benefits of POGOs, Go also highlighted the risks and negative impacts associated with their continued operation.
