Senator Christopher “Bong” Go presided over a significant ceremony on Tuesday, July 2 at the Bislig Highland Function Farm Hotel in Bislig City. The event aimed to promote cooperative development in the Caraga region and marked the inauguration of the Malasakit sa Kooperatiba program in the region. This program will provide crucial financial support to 23 local cooperatives in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).
Each cooperative received PhP50,000 in cash from the CDA to enhance their businesses, from day-to-day operations to investments in new projects, thanks to Go’s assistance.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel and Lingig Mayor Elmer Evangelio. Two delegates from each cooperative, representing regions such as Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Agusan del Norte, were present. Although only 46 cooperative members were present, an additional 75 from neighbouring Bislig City cooperatives attended as spectators to benefit from the program orientation.
In addition to CDA funding, Go also donated essential items such as basketballs, shirts, and volleyballs to cooperative members, as well as watches for cooperative heads, demonstrating a commitment to long-term community support.
“Dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo, asahan ninyo, patuloy akong magiging kaagapay ninyo, at susuportahan ang inyong mga pagsisikap sa abot ng aking makakaya,’ the Senator concluded.
