Senator Christopher “Bong” Go reiterated the need for assistance on disadvantaged communities when his Malasakit Team visited Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on November 21. The visit aimed to extend help to impoverished workers in the area through a variety of programs.
The completion of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program was also marked in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the local government led by Mayor Lester Sinsuat. The project provided displaced workers with temporary employment and thus direct access to resources.
In a bid to address rural employment difficulties at a broader level, Senator Go has presented Senate Bill No. 420 for instituting a Rural Employment Assistance Program. Should it become law, it provides temporary jobs for qualified individuals from low-income rural families. Go is a co-author and co-sponsor of Senate Bill No. 2534 concerning a PhP100 increase in the daily minimum wage applicable nationwide, which is intended to lessen the financial burden borne by Filipino workers.
At the Barangay Kakar Gym, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed snacks, shirts, vitamins, and sporting supplies, such as basketballs and volleyballs, among 179 beneficiaries. Selected beneficiaries also received other materials such as new shoes, a cell phone, and a watch.
As Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go has reiterated his commitment to the accessibility of healthcare, encouraging his constituents to visit the nearest Malasakit Centers, which would provide them with medical assistance. As part of this campaign, the Cotabato Sanitarium and General Hospital in Sultan Kudarat and the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City have been established and operated under the functional banner of the 166 facilities nationwide, which have delivered medical help to more than 15 million Filipinos with regard to the finances of medicine, as the Department of Health indicated.
The senator said the continued assistance needs to be extended toward such disadvantaged workers, particularly those needing food security.
