Constance Wu discusses her suicide attempt three years ago, following public reaction for her comments regarding a sitcom following her role in the film rendition of “Crazy Rich Asians.”
Wu, 40, was criticized in 2019 for comments she made on Twitter regarding the series “Fresh Off the Boat,” in which she featured.

The statements drew negative attention from netizens and some responses from the Asian American community, with one actress labeling Wu a “blight on the Asian American community.”
“I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it: 3 years ago, when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe,” Wu said in a statement.
When the news of the sitcom’s renewal came in 2019, Wu responded angrily, tweeting, “So upset right now that I’m literally crying.” Ugh. “F—-,” as well as “F—ing hell.” When a user congratulated Wu on the renewal and dubbed it “Great news,”
Wu responded, “No it’s not.” Wu subsequently justified herself, stating that she was furious at the time because she knew that if the series was renewed, she would have to reject down a passion project.
