The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that the program would begin on February 12 to make rice cheaper for consumers because the DA is expecting another fall in rice prices as the new harvest season is around the corner.
According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Laurel, the amount shaved off could go up to ₱3 per kilogram. However, he said the vulnerable, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and people from indigent sectors, would still be able to buy rice for a subsidized price of ₱29 per kilogram.
This action is another government activity aimed at making food secure and affordable for all the Filipinos.
