Even as Laguna province faces another surge of Covid-19 cases, health authorities said the province has another looming health problem it has to resolve.
This, after the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Calabarzon (DOH-CHD 4A) recently disclosed that the province ranked number one in dengue cases in the region.
In a statement released Thursday (August 25), the regional health office disclosed that Laguna has logged the highest number of dengue cases, with 3,705 cases reported from January 1 to August 20.
This was followed by Rizal with 2,554 dengue cases; Cavite with 2,077; Quezon 1,799; Batangas with 1,599; and Lucena City with 108.
Overall, dengue cases in Calabarzon rose by 124 percent with 11,842 dengue cases during that period, higher than the reported cases during the same period in 2021, according to DOH-Calabarzon Regional Director Dr. Ariel Valencia.
Valencia added that CALABARZON posted 11,842 dengue cases or 124 percent higher than the 5,287 cases recorded during the same period last year. There were 19 deaths recorded.
Data also showed that the primary age group affected by dengue ranged from 1 to 10 years old.
DOH encouraged residents to take the necessary precautions as cases continue to rise since the rainy season is not over.
To date, Laguna also ranked top in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the region, with 948 active cases reported as of August 25. OpinYon News Team
