The Department of Health is actively reminding the public about the surge in dengue cases now that the rainy season has officially begun in the Philippines.
Although dengue occurrences are minimal in Barangay Quirino 2B in Quezon City, the community is proactive. They set mosquito larva traps in every residence monthly and conduct frequent clean-up drives and foggings.
A spokesperson for the DOH, Asec. Albert Domingo noted that even though they see a decreasing number of cases nationwide, they are not contented because of the start of the rainy season, which might be the reason for the surge in dengue cases.
Domingo continued that mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, including gutters, small buckets, and old vehicle tyres. If mosquitoes carrying dengue lay eggs, the result is a dengue-infected mosquito.
The DOH continues to warn the public to take precautionary measures by applying mosquito repellent lotion, wearing long sleeves and pants, and seeking medical attention if dengue symptoms occur.
