The Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed that they have located the whereabouts of fugitive and former Bureau of Corrections Chief Gerald Bantag.
Despite being in hiding for more than a year, the authorities have not given up seeking Bantag. Justice Assistant Secretary Atty. Mico Clavano stated that they just need to be patient in difficult situations involving law enforcement officers.
The Court of Appeals dismissed their camp’s certiorari petition only this week. This petition was a challenge to the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court-Branch 254’s decision to dismiss the applicant’s request to quash information and arrest warrant, as well as their move for reconsideration.
Percy Mabasa, also known as Lapid, was fatally shot in Las Piñas City on October 3, 2022. In April 2023, the court issued warrants for their arrest and that of others.
The DOJ has earlier stated that a financial reward of P2 million would be provided for information about Bantag’s location, while P1 million would have been given for Zulueta.
Last April, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents raided Bantag’s alleged hideouts in Laguna and Caloocan City to serve the arrest warrant, but they were unable to locate him.
Meanwhile, Zulueta died on March 15 from heart failure.
