Manama: The Filipino Creatives Bahrain, a dynamic community of Filipino artists based in Bahrain, successfully organized a two-day workshop on February 23rd and March 8th, 2024. The workshop, held at the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Manama, aimed to inspire and nurture young artistic talents in celebration of Art Month.
Aligned with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) theme “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain” (Harvest of Art, Creative Nation), the Filipino Creatives Bahrain spearheaded a workshop entitled “Sa Bintana ng Batang Malikhain” (Through the Window of a Creative Child). This workshop was designed to provide a platform for 30 chosen students from the Philippine School Bahrain (PSB) to explore their artistic potential.

Under the guidance of two talented artists, Ms. Jeah Valerio and Mr. Ej Reyes, the workshop encompassed two distinct categories: acrylic painting and film-making. Mr. Reyes, an experienced filmmaker, emphasized the importance of storytelling in the film-making process, stating, “Even with excellent technical skills and meticulous attention to details such as sets, costumes, music, and cinematography, it is the ability to tell a compelling story that truly defines a film.”

Fifteen students enthusiastically participated in the film-making workshop, where they received an immersive introduction to the world of film-making. The students collaborated to create a poignant short film, showcasing their newfound skills and creativity. The film was showcased at the Philippine Embassy on March 8th, leaving the audience captivated and amazed.
Ms. Valerio, a seasoned painter, led the painting workshop with the theme “Expressing Yourself through Colors,” stating, “Life is too bland to live without creating. Art serves as a medium of self-expression and an extension of one’s being.” The students embraced this philosophy and created intricate artworks that reflected their unique perspectives on life.

To commemorate the workshop, the painting category students collaborated to create a beautiful masterpiece depicting a mother and child. This artwork was presented as a gift to the esteemed Philippine Ambassador, H.E. Anne Jalando-on Louis, symbolizing the students’ gratitude for her support and encouragement.

The Filipino Creatives Bahrain is dedicated to nurturing and shaping the talents of young and budding artists. Their mission is to empower these individuals to contribute to the richness of Philippine culture through painting and film-making, while also inspiring others through their creative expressions.
