MANILA — The Department of Finance (DOF) on Saturday expressed approval of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s order to give back ₱60 billion to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). The amount, which had previously been transferred to the national treasury, will now be redirected to strengthen the insurer’s health programs.

The DOF said it earlier provided its recommendation to the President, pointing out that PhilHealth’s stronger financial standing justified the restoration. The department added that the funds will serve as much-needed support to widen benefit packages and improve services for members.

According to finance officials, the move represents a significant step toward ensuring that government health programs remain responsive to the needs of Filipinos, especially amid growing calls for better access to affordable medical care.

The Palace’s decision also highlights the administration’s intent to reinforce social protection measures, with a focus on making healthcare more accessible and reliable for families across the country.

With the ₱60 billion back under PhilHealth’s management, the DOF assured the public that the funds would enhance the agency’s stability and boost its capacity to deliver timely and effective healthcare assistance nationwide.–Cali Demi
