The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued Weather Advisory No. 8, warning of heavy rains across parts of Luzon and Visayas due to a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). The weather system is expected to bring significant rainfall over several areas through August 28.
Today, August 26, the LPA is forecast to bring 50 to 100 mm of rain in the following provinces:
Isabela, Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate
On August 27, the following areas will remain affected by LPA-related rains:
Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur
Meanwhile, monsoon rains will also bring 50 to 100 mm of rain in the following areas:
Today, August 26:
Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique
Tomorrow, August 27:
Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Antique, Negros Occidental
Thursday, August 28:
Palawan, Occidental Mindoro
PAGASA notes that rainfall may be more intense in mountainous or elevated areas. With prior rains already saturating the ground in many locations, there is an increased risk of flooding and landslides. The public and local disaster officials are advised to take all necessary precautions.
PAGASA also reminds the public of the difference between a Weather Advisory and a Heavy Rainfall Warning. Weather advisories give a 24-hour forecast at the provincial level, while heavy rainfall warnings are more accurate, short-term alerts (3 hours) issued at the municipal level using Doppler radar. The next advisory is expected by 11:00 AM today. Cali Demi
