The future of the Philippines and the Asia Pacific would always involve the US, President Marcos said on Thursday, Feb. 2, as he emphasized the importance of alliances and partnerships while the region faces “troubled waters.”
In his opening remarks during the courtesy call of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III at the Palace,
Marcos said the situation in the Asia Pacific has become “terribly complicated” and could only be navigated properly with the help of partners and allies in the international sphere.
He then noted that the US is the “longest partner and ally” of the Philippines, describing the ties between the two countries as “strong” and “so historically embedded in our common psyches.”
