The death toll from Typhoon Crising and the enhanced south-west monsoon (habagat) has increased to six, as per the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Data from MDRRMC says three are from Northern Mindanao and one each from MIMAROPA, Davao Region, and Caraga.
So far, only two of the six reported deaths have been confirmed by authorities. One victim, from Barangay Poblacion, Mambajao, Camiguin, died with injuries sustained on July 19 by being struck by a falling tree. He was taken to the hospital; unfortunately, he was declared dead due to trauma secondary to external injuries.
Another confirmed fatality was reported in Barangay Matin-ao, Mainit, Surigao del Norte: a man traveling on a motorcycle home from his friend’s house was hit by a fallen tree.
According to the NDRRMC, five others have sustained injuries, while six have been reported missing due to heavy rains and flooding brought on by the two weather systems.
According to this report, 1.2 million individuals, or 300,000 families, have been affected except for Eastern Visayas. Many areas experience floods, landslides, structural damage, and, in some, tornadoes.
Rescue efforts continue in the most affected areas, tracking the developments on the situation. People should still be on alert and obey advisories from their local governments, as further rainfall and hazards are anticipated in the coming days.
