The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 12 at 11:00 PM on February 6, 2026, as Tropical Depression Basyang continues to affect large portions of the Visayas. A Yellow Rainfall Warning has been raised over several provinces, signaling the potential for flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous locations.
Areas placed under Yellow Warning include Negros Occidental, particularly Bacolod City and nearby municipalities, as well as parts of Leyte, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan. PAGASA warned that rainfall associated with the weather system may intensify at times, increasing risks for communities situated near rivers, creeks, and slopes.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains with occasional heavy downpours are expected within the next one to two hours over portions of Samar and Eastern Samar. These weather conditions are also currently being experienced in Biliran, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and several areas in Leyte, Cebu, Antique, and Negros Occidental, and may persist for up to two to three hours, potentially affecting nearby localities.
PAGASA emphasized that flooding remains possible in low-lying and flood-prone areas, while landslides may occur in mountainous and saturated zones. Residents in affected provinces were urged to remain cautious, especially during nighttime hours when visibility and response time may be limited.
The public and concerned Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) have been advised to continuously monitor weather conditions and remain alert for further advisories. PAGASA is expected to issue the next rainfall warning at 2:00 AM tomorrow, as Tropical Depression Basyang continues to influence weather patterns across the region.–Cali Demi
