President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Saturday to conduct a review of the Philippine Military Academy’s curriculum.
This includes combating disinformation and cyber intrusions.
Marcos in a speech at the graduation ceremony of the PMA “Bagong Sinag” Class of 2024 at Fort General Gregorio Del Pilar in Baguio City, he is directing PNP and AFP leadership to evaluate the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) curriculum so that incoming cadets are armed with the most recent or 21st-century skills for confronting “conventional and asymmetric threats.”
Moreover, PBBM also urged new graduates to make sacrifices for their country in the face of threats to national territory and those seeking to divide the Filipino people.
Meanwhile, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the PMA curriculum has been modified ten times since it began in 1935.
These reviews have grown more common after 2021.
According to the PCO, the curriculum was conducted in response to rising security and environmental concerns as well as technology advancements.
The PMA’s present curriculum, according to the PCO was developed to improve cadets’ competency in performing their jobs in the Armed Forces and ensure that their baccalaureate degree programme is competitive with international degrees.
