The Philippine-Chinese Businessmen’s Association is urging both the Philippines and China to engage in diplomatic discussions to de-escalate tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce Industry, Inc. and 32 other Filipino-Chinese business and civic federations have jointly made this appeal in light of recent incidents in the disputed sea.
They stand in support of President Marcos’ call for diplomacy in resolving issues between the two nations and for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Emphasizing the need for meaningful dialogue and finding common ground, they advocate for a peaceful resolution without blame or condemnation.
During President Marcos’ visit to WESCOM, he honored soldiers who participated in a resupply mission and bestowed awards upon them.
Furthermore, the United States has expressed concern about the rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea. Daniel Kritenbrink, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, has condemned China’s actions as “irresponsible, aggressive, and dangerous.”
He reassured the US commitment to its alliance with the Philippines under the Mutual Defense Treaty, which obligates the US to defend the Philippines in the event of an armed attack.
