Information is still being gathered by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon about the conditions of all affected Filipinos due to the March 28 earthquake of 7.7 magnitude that hit the area.
According to an advisory from the embassy on Saturday, March 29, the purpose of the measures is to determine what resources may be needed to assist Filipinos on the ground, which may include sending a team of embassy personnel to assist with welfare checks and any necessary assistance.
The same mission has assured that they are also monitoring developments so as to facilitate any possible evacuation or repatriation.
In case of an emergency, Filipinos in Myanmar may contact the embassy via the Assistance-to-Nationals hotline at +95 998 521 0991 or through the official Facebook page and Messenger of the Philippine Embassy in Myanmar.
This was earlier considered in a statement from Eduardo De Vega, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, who stated that there are some 600 Filipinos in Myanmar, a number of them, however, are situated at a considerable distance from the earthquake epicenter.
