Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, is supporting the Alas Pilipinas Women’s Volleyball Team by partnering with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to provide financial assistance. Each of the 14 volleyball players and 9 coaching staff received 200,000 pesos in financial support from Senator Go and the PSC at a ceremony in Manila City on Wednesday, June 26.
This support aims to help the team prepare for the upcoming International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Challenger Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines next week.
Additionally, Senator Go and the PSC also provided financial assistance amounting to 500,000 pesos to each Filipino Olympian competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Senator Go further supported the athletes by providing them with shoes and watches.
Assistant Coach Dimaculangan and Palad expressed gratitude to Senator Go for his unwavering support, which has motivated the athletes. This support is part of a broader effort, including Republic Act No. 11470, which Senator Go drafted and co-sponsored. This law established the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in New Clark City, Tarlac, to provide specialized instruction and training to prospective student-athletes.
Furthermore, Senator Go led the passage of Senate Bill No. 2514, also known as the Philippine National Games (PNG) Act. This bill, largely sponsored and co-authored by Senator Go, aims to institutionalize an inclusive platform for national sports championships, with a focus on grassroots participation to identify and develop athletic potential.
