SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go applauded the Senate’s passage of Senate Bill No. 2514, or the Philippine National Games (PNG) bill, on second reading on Tuesday, May 14, following the submission of major revisions.
Sen. Go is the author of the bill which would boost grassroots sports development and establish a structured national sports programme, passed the second reading after adding crucial modifications to ensure inclusivity and comprehensiveness.
Go, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, emphasized the importance of the revisions submitted to broaden the bill’s scope and objectives.
The bill’s main revisions included rephrasing PNG’s function as one of the country’s major sporting contests. This change will give importance to other sporting events in the country, such as the Palarong Pambansa.
The bill also specifies para-athletes, guaranteeing that athletes with disabilities have equal chances.
With second reading approval, the bill is one step closer to becoming law. And Go expressed confidence about its implications, stating, “If passed, this bill will pave the way for a more organized and inclusive sports development programme in our country.”
