SEN. BONG GO emphasized the necessity of funding to enforce Republic Act 11959, known as the “Regional Specialty Centers Act.”
The legislation, garnering a unanimous 24-0 Senate vote, aims to establish specialized medical facilities in regional hospitals, providing better accessibility to indigents.
During discussions on the Department of Health’s budget, Senator Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, highlighted that the enactment of RA 11959 would eliminate the need for patients with severe ailments in provinces to travel to Metro Manila for specialized treatment.
“We passed the Regional Specialty Centers Act. P10 B is already allocated for its implementation in the committee report. This multi-year program is crucial to ensure patients in the provinces receive necessary care without going to Manila,” Go stated.
The measure aligns with Malasakit Centers, advocated by Go, and complements the proposed establishment of nationwide Super Health Centers. (PAN)
