Senator Christopher “Bong” Go advocated for increased livelihood programs for marginalized sectors during his visit to Polomolok with his Malasakit Team to assist displaced workers on October 29. The visit was timely and interventive and showcased Go’s intention of providing sustainable employment for at-risk Filipinos.
With the help of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and local officials, Senator Go helped in the job placement of 1,000 displaced workers under ‘Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers’ or TUPAD program of DOLE. Nograles, Allen Ines and the Mayor himself, Bernie Palencia and some councilors Eliazar Jovero, Ligaya Orbesido, and Danny Nograles, who showed support too.
This program provides temporary employment to individuals who are temporarily economically inactive due to some reasons.
Moreover, with employment assistance, Go’s Malasakit Team also provided shirts, fans, vitamins, and other materials to all the participants. Also on the list of special beneficiaries were mobile phones, sling bags, a watch, a pair of shoes, basketballs and volleyballs.
Senator Go pointed out that numerous workers especially in the rural areas are searching for jobs that will help them take care of their dependents. This was the reason therefore for the introduction of Senate Bill No 420 edd which is aimed at providing REAP. If the provisions of this legislation come into force, REAP offers particularly short-term paid work for economically disadvantaged persons in the countryside, to those displaced workers and seasonal workers.
