The death toll from Typhoon Carina has risen to nine, as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). One individual is missing and two others are injured.
The casualties include four individuals from the Zamboanga Peninsula, two from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and one each from the Davao Region and Northern Mindanao. In Manila’s Barangay 96, Tondo, a drowned teenager was found deceased near Infanta Bridge.
The typhoon has affected 866,483 people, or 179,744 families, in total.
The agricultural sector faces an estimated P8.7 million in losses across the Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and BARMM. Additionally, infrastructure damage is reported at P700,000, while damage to families stands at P2.5 million.
The NDRRMC noted that intense rainfall since July 11, exacerbated by typhoons Butchoy and Carina, has led to severe flooding in several parts of the country.
In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided P29 million in relief aid to the affected families.
