Damage caused to agriculture in Mimaropa and Western Visayas due to Typhoon Crising and the south-west monsoon is estimated at P53 million.
According to the Department of Agriculture (DA), the preliminary losses in agriculture are pegged at P53 million in Region IV-B (Mimaropa) and Region VI (Western Visayas). The disasters affected over 2,400 hectares of farmland and 2,099 farmers in the two provinces.
Floodwaters swept onto rice, corn, and other high-value crop fields, causing losses to poultry and livestock operations, the DA said. Some of the warehouses of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Mindoro were also inundated with floodwaters.
DA has directed its agencies to mobilize and send aid to affected farmers and fisherfolk.
Meanwhile, NFA Administrator Larry Lacson said they have already started releasing rice stocks to local government units and other agencies involved in disaster responses.
The DA assured the public that it is keeping a close watch on the situation and will continue to work with affected communities in assisting their recovery from the aftermath of the typhoon and monsoon rains.
