President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has made a restructuring of the National Security Counci (NSC)l wherein the Vice President Sara Duterte and former Philippine presidents was excluded.
Reorganization has recently taken place under Executive Order No. 81 to make the capabilities of the NSC responsive on new threats and make it a more viable institution for the protection of national security and sovereignty.
In his executive order, President Marcos emphasized the critical needs for NSC members to at all times show 100 percent commitment to the cause of national security and induce an environment suitable for effective governance and stability. The NSC was said to have formally been constituted through Executive Order No. 330 on July 1, 1950.
New composition of NSCincludes:
- The President as Chairperson
- Senate President
- Speaker of the House of Representatives
- Senate President Pro Tempore
- Three Deputy Speakers by the Speaker of the House
- Majority and Minority Leadership from both the Senate and the House
- Chairpersons for applicable Senate committees in Foreign Relations; National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification, and Reconciliation; and Public Order and Dangerous Drugs
- Chairpersons for key House committees in Foreign Affairs; National Defense and Security; and Public Order and General Safety
